This explains what CHATT+ holds about you and your children, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be understood rather than to cover us.

The short version

We hold your email address so that you can sign in, your mobile number if you give us one, the names you give your children’s profiles and what you have told us about their schooling, and a record of the questions those children have answered. We use it to run the app and show you how your child is getting on. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who is responsible

Chatterton Tuition Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, is the data controller for CHATT+. You can reach us about anything on this page at admin@chattertontuition.co.uk.

What we hold

Your account
Your email address, which is how you sign in — there is no password, only a six-digit code we send you when you do. Your name, so that we know who we are writing to.
Your mobile number
Only if you give us one, and only so that we can reach you about your account or your child’s practice when an email will not do. We do not use it for marketing, and leaving the box empty in your settings removes it.
Your children’s profiles
The name you type for each child. It can be a first name, an initial or a nickname: it is shown only to you and to the tutors who support the account, so it does not need to be their full name. Alongside it, what you have told us about their schooling — the year they are in and the school you are aiming for — which is what lets us pitch their practice.
Practice records
Every question a child answers, the answer they gave, whether it was right, and when. This is what makes progress, streaks and review work.
Subscription details
Whether your subscription is active, how many children it covers, and the identifiers our payment provider gives us. Card numbers are handled by Stripe and never reach us.
Reminders
If you turn practice reminders on, we store what is needed to send them. Turning them off removes it.
Ordinary technical data
The requests your browser makes to us, kept briefly so that we can keep the service running and secure.

Why we hold it

To provide what you have subscribed to: that is our contract with you, and it covers your account, your children’s profiles and their practice records.

To take payment, and to keep the records a business is required to keep about the payments it has taken.

To keep the service running, secure and correct. That is our legitimate interest, and we keep it to what is needed for it.

We do not use any of it for advertising, and we do not profile children for anything other than showing their own progress back to them and to you.

Children

A child does not have their own CHATT+ account and does not give us their own data. The account belongs to you, the parent or guardian, and you create the profiles under it.

That is deliberate. It means you decide what your child is called in the app, you can see everything held about them, and you can have it removed without going through anybody else.

Who else sees it

Stripe, who take the payments. They receive what they need to charge your card, and they hold the card details rather than us.

The suppliers who host the app and send our emails, who process data on our instructions and are not free to use it for anything else.

Chatterton Tuition Ltd’s own tutors and staff, where they need it to support your account.

Nobody else. We do not sell data and we do not share it with advertisers.

How long we keep it

Your account and your children’s practice records are kept while your account is open. Remove a child’s profile and we stop showing their record; ask us to delete it and it goes.

Close your account and we delete your personal data, other than the records of payments that we are required to keep for accounting purposes.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we are using it. Those rights cover your children’s data as well as your own, and you exercise them on their behalf.

Write to admin@chattertontuition.co.uk and we will act on it. We will not make it difficult.

If you are not happy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

We set the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to remember whether you have chosen a light or dark appearance. There are no advertising cookies and no third-party tracking, which is why there is no cookie banner asking you to agree to any.

Changes

If we change how we handle your data in a way that matters, we will update this page and tell you by email before it takes effect.
