Questions parents ask

If yours is not here, write to us and we will answer it, and probably add it to this page.

Cost and billing

What does CHATT+ cost?
£9.99 per child, per month. That is the only plan.
We have two children. Do we need two accounts?
No. One account holds as many children as you like. Each child is £9.99 a month, so two children is £19.98, on one subscription and one bill.
Is there a free trial?
Not at the moment. We would rather tell you that plainly than run a trial and make it awkward to get out of.
Is there an annual plan, or a discount for paying up front?
No. Monthly is the only way to pay today.
How do I cancel?
From your account, which opens the Stripe billing portal. Nothing to email and nobody to ring.
Do we have to be Chatterton Tuition Ltd pupils?
No. CHATT+ is sold on its own and anybody can subscribe.
What if a question looks wrong?
Tell us. There is a Report button on every question — your child taps it, picks a reason and can add a note, and it goes straight to the tutors. It takes a few seconds and nothing is lost: the question is marked as normal and practice carries on. This is the main way the bank gets better, so please do use it.

What is in it

How many questions are there?
10,500+ questions and 1,000+ question sets are published, across 54 topics in four subjects: verbal reasoning, maths, non-verbal reasoning and English.
What is a “question set”?
A passage or a puzzle with several questions attached to it. A comprehension is one passage and everything asked about it.
Are there timed papers?
Yes. There are four designs, one per subject, and a fresh paper is built from the bank every time your child sits one — so the number of papers is not four, it is as many as they want. English: 30 minutes, about 26 questions; Maths: 30 minutes, about 25 questions; Non-verbal reasoning: 20 minutes, about 40 questions; Verbal reasoning: 20 minutes, about 32 questions.
What does review actually do?
It builds a queue from the questions your child has got wrong and not yet got right. Once they answer one correctly it drops out, so the pile shrinks as they improve.
Which exams does it prepare for?
The questions are written in the GL Assessment style, primarily for Ripon Grammar School entrance. They are the ones Chatterton Tuition Ltd’s tutors use with their own pupils. If you are preparing for a different school or board, ask us and we will tell you plainly whether it fits.

Using it

What do we need to run it?
A web browser. It works on a tablet, a laptop or a phone, and on a tablet you can add it to the home screen so it opens full screen with its own icon.
Is it in the App Store?
No. CHATT+ is on the web. Installing it to the home screen gives you the same thing without a download, but you will not find it by searching an app store.
Can my child use it on their own?
Yes. Everything is marked automatically, so nothing waits on a parent to check it.
Will it remind them to practise?
If you switch reminders on, yes.
Can I see how they are getting on?
Yes. Each child has their own progress, with a streak for days practised and medals for questions answered. Medals are for work done, not for scores, so a bad day never takes one away.
Do we have to install updates?
No. CHATT+ runs in the browser, so your child is always on the current version. When we add questions, they are simply there the next time it is opened.
